I was a child of the seventies, and believe you me, we did some REALLY stupid stuff in our misspent youth...and I still turned out okay ( well, sorta! LOL).

As did MANY of us. But the issue of personal responsibility is paramount in this situation. It just really rubs me raw that ALL of us must be punished due to the misguided actions of one not-so-smart young man. Every single action Haight made was a choice ... from accessing the World Wide Web to taking that handful of pills, HE chose to do what he did. It's not our fault, yet we will all be affected by his actions.

My very best to your son, Kandi. I was drafted during Vietnam and I know how very nervous and concerned you must be. Although I thoroughly DESPISE the unfeeling idiots who got us into this miserable conflict, I utterly respect the military people who have to bear the brunt of this lunacy. May your son remain safe and healthy.

Regarding Ryan Haight - it's VERY interesting that in all the stories about this guy, it's RARELY mentioned that he had other things in his system besides the pills he allegedly ordered ... things which potentiated the narcotics he ingested. I always find it so ridiculous that when someone dies of combining pills and alcohol, one NEVER hears senators and their despicable ilk saying, "We must get rid of this perfidious alcohol." Hypocrites, all!

And on ALL of that we can agree, my friend...on a kind of funny aside, my Marine was a heavy metal guitar player and songwriter for four years before he joined the military, and looked EVERY INCH THE PART, from his dark, thick Robert Plant-esque hair,(that he ended up donating to Locks of Love after growing it for 5 years) the nosering, and a big tattoo of his Goth model Gibson SG that he designed...but he was a STRAIGHTEDGE kid that never drank, smoked or used any type of drugs...cut to last weekend at Camp Pendleton..a bunch of them went down to TJ and got drunk on horrible cheap Tequila...LOL, a rite of passage, I guess. "Hey kid, you're a Marine now..let's go out and get DRUNK!" And I thank you for your service, also! I can't help but feel that when the boy came home on leave at Xmas time, he got a *tiny* taste of what it must have felt like to be a VN vet...EVERYWHERE he went it seemed, people felt the need to come up to him and say stuff like, 'I hate this war, and I hate the military!' It definitely demoralized him...He tried being reasonable about it, saying stuff like, 'TYLER A****** doesn't believe in the war either, but PFC A****** is going willingly to take care of the guy beside me'. That still didn't work, and I would have to PM you the response that we came up with to this sort of nonsense, so as not to offend the board, but it was pretty funny, and left a lot of ppl with their jaws on the floor! ;-)But I digress..I could talk about my very special boy all night long, and I am home all alone and sure don't wanna get kicked outta this joint!
