More proof that it is the NROPs that are causing the problems. Notice the description of the labels on the bottles. From WKTY Police say there are nearly 100 illegal pharmacies on the internet and many of them are shipping narcotics to drug dealers in eastern Kentucky. Police say there are many people who legitimately need to order prescriptions online and those people need to know the difference between the legal and illegal operations they could run into on the web. Pill bottles that arrive from rogue on-line pharmacies are marked with minimal information. The name of the medication and the recipient's name are all that appear. Operation UNITE Director Dan Smoot says that is one of the red flags legitimate patients should look for. "These pharmacies frankly don't follow the rules. Hopefully these patients are getting what they think they're getting," Smoot said. Police say other signs to look for are pharmacies who don't offer any medication besides narcotics. Even though websites like these are feeding the drug frenzy, Pharmacist Richard Slone says it actually takes a burden off of local pharmacists. "If it's strictly the narcotic seekers, the people getting the drugs just for abuse, it's really a blessing." Police say that's also part of the problem, doctors and pharmacists in the state can see who is prescribing, receiving and distributing all controlled substances with the KASPER system. Without the internet pharmacies registering with the state, law enforcement officials are losing another eye in the lookout for abusers. This is making it more difficult to get rid of the illegal sites for good. Officials say people here at home can help by supporting the new bill introduced by Attorney General Greg Stumbo, which will force all internet pharmacies to register with the state and abide by health regulations. |
