Re: Rush Limbaugh

I have listened to bits and pieces of Rush throughout the year for laughs.

The problem here is that he, along with most other political entertainment personalities, take these extreme us vs. them stances on everything, as if politics were a football game, and as if the sophistication of politics, society, and world events can be categorized into neat little dichotomies of good vs. evil, right vs. wrong, us vs. them, dems vs. repubs, believers vs. non-believers, etc etc etc.

Given the animosity that Rush displays towards just about half of his fellow Americans, I have a real hard time believing that he showed the same compassion towards drug addicts that he expects in return.

Here is one of his quotes "We have alcoholics and drug addicts in our society, don't we? And what do we say about them? Well, they can't help it. ... [Y]eah, like that line of cocaine just happened to march into the hotel, go up to the athlete's room, and put itself right in front of him on his blotter...too many whites are getting away with drug use. ... The answer is to go out and find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them, and send them up the river."

I highly doubt Rush will be taking a trip up the river anytime soon ... he simply represents how incredibly self-centered and short-sighted so many people can be.
