Re: I was arrested for ordering by mail

I know the patriot act was passed and I know it gives the feds a much broader range of powers when it comes to surveillance and circumventing the need for warrants in many situations. I dont think this applies to domstic mail though. I have read alot about the act and I have never seen USPS mail even mentioned. The only type of mail even addressed is email.

I'm not trying to be a dick here at all. If I am wrong I'd like to know about it. I've read the 2 websites that Billy posted links for (all 200 pages or some sh**) and I still have not seen mail mentioned. The info regarding the act and the new powers are quite detailed. It just isnt there.

The above link is talking about international mail that goes thru US Customs. Yes, I am very aware that Customs reserves the right to open all ingoing and outgoing mail. Domestic mail is different. Something going from a US address to another US address cannot be opened without a warrant.

The article even says "While I have been publicly critical of the U.S. Postal Service for their poor overall record on privacy, I will admit that they have been consistent and resolute in their adherence to our Fourth Amendment protections against warrantless searches"
