Just watch one of the MANY Dick Wolfe law and Order franches (about half what is on TV).

I agree that most cops-espcially small toen cops, are not the brightest out there. I know that some cities do make a LE candidate have a degree. But this is a minority. Only some LE jobs at the state level and mostly at the federal level like FBI.

But small town cops are basically football players that were the campus bullies in school and the only job that they can get if they stay in that small town is being a cop because they are big guys. But football players are not the brightest guys in the world and that translates into dumb small town, mean spirited cops that do not know beans about the law.

I am no lawyer but have been in areas of various parts of law over the course of my career and all I can say NO ONE can keep up with all the laws.

One last thing about small town cops. They are for the most part, big fish on campus that never grew up but know get to carry a gun which just re-inforces their swagger. And they are very dangerous because most have bad tempers. Be VERY careful and if one did aske to look in your car, do say i want an attorney.
