Re:How can LE tell if you are DUI on pain meds?

Kimbell,

Well put. CP patients really should fall under a different category where this is concerned, because I know all too well what it feels like to be in agony with back pain, and taking a 7.5/325 dose of hydro isn't going to make me drowsy if I'm in that much pain, but as far as LE is concerned, if they find it present in your system, you're treated like a crackhead or an illicit drug user.

Unlike my friend, I wouldn't volunteer the information that I have a legal prescription for hydro (in his case Klonopin), but it is true, it used to be DWI (driving while intoxicated), now it all falls under DUI (driving under the influence). And I really don't think that it has all that much to do with LE trying to look out for the "innocent victims" that could have potentially been harmed by someone who is driving after taking medications, it's really all about meeting quotas (most DUI's are given out towards the end of the year), especially right before a major election. At least that's what I think. Almost everyone I know that has gotten a DUI got it in the last quarter of the year, right before an election.

But I was just trying to say for my own personal reasons wouldn't knowingly drive around under the influence. I'm past the age where that sort of thing is excusable (if it's excusable at all), and I think that working with kids for so long changed my view about the right and wrong aspects of doing it, especially after what happened to my former co worker.

As for my friend (I believe it was purpoptart who sent the speedy recovery wishes along) who was hurt in the accident on Friday night, they kept him overnight for observation, but he's home now, albeit pretty sore from his injuries, but according to him, is feeling no pain because they actually prescribed him 30 endocet to help him ease the pain a bit. They advised him to take it easy for the next week or so and he has a follow up appointment I think next week.
