I agree 100%. My father (of all people) told me a long time ago. cooperate with LE but do not do their work for them. You get sucked in. I would have (if I had the cash) hired a good criminal defense attorney and spoken in his/her prescence, with his/her advice only. I think a lot of LE give the same advice to their family.
