night_shade: that was great of you to dig through and find the laws for each state. Did you actually manually do a search for each state ? Great work !

I was browsing some of those links, and each state of course has the laws in its own format, there is no uniform way they are phrased. Interestingly, Alabama places the notorious barbiturates as Schedule III, not Schedule II as the DEA classifies them. Phenobarbital is Schedule IV (same as DEA I believe).

This makes me wonder -- can one go to a different state, see a doctor there and get a prescription for a Schedule II substance and bring it back, if the doctors in your home state are too afraid to write you the prescription?
