Don't worry, even with hydrocodone medication from my OP, it's never gotten a second glance (and that includes international flights). I carry my wife's Valium from an OP with me too (since I'm holding the carry-on bag). I can see where the search your family received would have been unnerving, but they pick out every 'nth' person for extra scrutiny and they weren't looking for prescriptions, just going through the motions to dissuade terrorists.
