there is always so much intersest to know the 10 panel test vs 5 panel test. the 5 panel test looks for the following: Marijuana (THC) Cocaine Amphetamines Opiates (Heroin) Phencyclidine the 10 panel test: Marijuana (THC) Cocaine Amphetamines Methamphetamines Opiates (Heroin) Phencyclidine Benzodiazepines Barbituates Methadone Tri-Cyclics the 5/10 panel test also check for the following PH, specific gravity, nitrates oxyidants and glutants. all these are to ensure that the urine has not been tampered. the urine is placed into two seperate containers after it has been checked for the correct body temp. then they are both sealed. one vial is tested the other will be sent to a lab if it come back as "non-negitve" all this means is that something caused a reaction on the test strip. it doese not nesscarly mean the urine is + for the tested drug. the test strip can react to many other subsutances Ie antibotics. that is why the sample is sent for exact testing at a lab. then and only after the lab has retested is the saple considered + or - for the tested item.. rember also that the test 5/10 panel 'quick' test checks for the matabolites of the drug not the drug itself. that is why it has to be retested at a lab. cross reactions do and can occure. the medical officer will then call the person to take a medical history and verify other meds the person is taking. (often times you will never here from the MRO because at the lab test they identfy the reaction as a 'good' med and not a drug of abuse. IF the person has a valid perscrpition from a valid phamacy then the person has done nothing wrong. the one thing to consider, that a person is taking ie valium the employer may have some issuse as in regards to working/ driving while impared. here is a link for the half life (detection periods) of several drugs 10 panel information I am not a LE person or an expert the only information is what I have gotten from training and inservices. I hope this helps people understand and to ease fears of the tests most commonly given at work/clinics. johng |
