i cannot say with certainty about this, but i get the feeling that brazil's mailing system is not very good or reliable for standard mail. the reason for the tracking number is so the mail handlers in brazil know that you know that the mail should reach its destination and not get lost "stolen".

plus you know when it gets there and G, or anyone else, cannot claim the MO never arrived because with a tracking number its easy to see that it did.
