The goofy thing, as I understand it, is that poppy seeds themselves are perfectly legal to possess (USA), but any other part of the plant is federally scheduled. So--if you buy some poppy seeds for baking, and inadvertently drop some into an hospitable environment, and they develop roots and shoots (which they will), you have a C-I substance on your hands. Amazing, I know. |
