Registered mail is about the only way that they can guarantee you recieve their package. The mail system passes it thru individuals who have to sign for the package as if it were their's. If it gets lost the last person who signed for it would most likely LOSE their job. If it gets held up in customs then the sender would know because they could track it. That is why they use it. I know this because my uncle works for the post office. Most everybody who handles a registered package is like playing "hot potato" because they get to pass the responsibality off to the next person clearing them of all responsability. Some people actually send cash registered mail because it is insured. With the fact that someone will lose there job if the package was not delivered with your signature, it is almost guaranteed to be delivered. I suppose this rule must somehow pass on to the customs people as well. I can assure you that a postal employee would not take the fall if it were to be taken by customs.
