One of the reasons hospitals use Versed/midazolam is because it DOES cause memory loss. The thinking is that if you don't remember the unpleasant/painful episode then it's like it never happened. It's true that a huge dose is required to OD. The danger is that it induces a state of mind which could lead to dangerous situations i.e. you forget the cigarette you just dropped on the sofa or the saucepan on the stove or the bathtub running, etc.

This is not a benzo to be fooled with. For your own safety and that of the innocent civilians who may be around you:
