Hi everybody, I went to my doctor in Feb. to get something for pain because I was going to China and I knew I'd be miserable on the long flight and all the walking I'd be doing. He actually said "sure, no problem" and gave me some vicodin, enough to last the trip. I went back in May to see him because I was having so many problems and lots of pain and asked him for the same thing he had given me before. He looked at me and said "no, I will not and I think you are becoming addicted and I will not treat someone who I think is just seeking something for pain". I could not believe what I was hearing. I felt so embarassed and ashamed and told him that he knew what my problems were and I hadn't taken anything for pain since Feb. and he said he would not prescribe anything. I left there and when I got home I emailed him and told him what I thought of his "bedside manner" and that I felt he was extremely unprofessional. He emailed me back saying he wasn't surprised by my email because he knew that I was looking for painkillers and that I left there with nothing and he knew I was mad about that. Again, I was stunned. I told him I wanted my records sent to me and I would be finding another doctor - I have been seeing this doctor for 20 years - and that was what he thought of me for asking for something for pain! It is totally ridiculous how these doctors feel about giving us something to help us and that is why I am now using the internet to get what I need to help me. I don't know what I would do without this board and the OP's. Hope you all have a good day. basenji |
