I don't think it is any "safer" however, it does have some real positive attributes. First, it gives you a second address for mailings, reducing the volume at one address and hence perhaps reducing suspicion. Second and more importantly for me, they sign for registered mail so you don't have to be there when the postman arrives. This is great for convenience. My own opinion is that having a P.O. box as an address may heighten scrutiny of that mail (I have nothing to confirm this, just my own opinion) so I like the fact that my P.O. box has a street address so it can't be distinguished from a regular address. All in all, I am most pleased with the PO box.
