I did everything myself, the narrative I got from the doc was due to my husband's disabilty pension (which he also got). I had a lawyer for the pension, since there was a dispute with his employer (he worked for the govt). My husband's problem is mental, but stems from a physical (brain) injury so he fit into more than one category. He is physically capable, but unable to follow even the simplest instructions. SS says that you have to be able to do "meaningful" work and to be able to earn a living. I guess anyone can make potholders, but that doesn't count.
