I knew this country was in trouble because so many American citizens thought that it was entirely appropriate to torture those Iraq prisoners.

I wish that I could hope into a time machine and live out my days in the 1960's. Protesting was ok then. Now you are called a traitor if you criticize the government. And Americans are perfectly content to give away their rights and freedoms without a second thought.

I hope I understood your post correctly. I will admit that I am not the most articulate writer and sometimesI should re-read someone's post before responding, but then again, I do run a post though spell check once in a while which is more than I can say for some things I read.

Yeah, first we didn't care all that much about the torture, and another issue entirely is the high incidence of bombing or shooting civilians. We have witnesses against the military for these travesties, but any mention of them gets a one paragraph note in the paper - in my case, the Washington Post, a pandering but slightly left-leaning paper you'd THINK would put more time into these massacres! 2 days ago the military bombed a house and killed 17 civilians, including 3 children. Witnesses from family, townspeople, and the local hospital corroborate this, but, sigh, we get one quote from a military official that it was a strike against a militant stronghold, and viola, it's not a story for a reporter.

Oh, and now some prominent people are getting criticized for protesting in the '60s and '70s, even though they were in a much better position to make a decision than we were.
