I have long been a proponent of personal responsibility. I just about died when I read the class action lawsuit against Purdue because several patients became addicts when they crushed and snorted (or injected) their oral OxyContin tablets. First of all, the patients doubtfully BECAME ADDICTS--they probably ALREADY WERE addicts--come on!!! I NEVER, EVER, considered crushing and snorting my medications...that thought NEVER EVEN CROSSED MY MIND in the decade+ I have been prescribed opioid pain medications! According to that lawsuit, Purdue should be liable because they DIDN'T specifically warn against crushing and snorting? Get real! The saddest thing of all is that some jury bought into that garbage. Those poor, poor addicts must have been corrupted by that evil OxyContin...give me a break!
But then again...I've even seen a post on THIS BOARD where the person wondered if they should sue their doctor for "becoming an addict"....UGH!
