They don't need a reason and they certainly don't need a search warrant as is usually the case with USPS. If FedEx finds what they believe are illegal drugs they can call the police and hand it over to them to make a legal bust. Read the standard terms on their shipper. When you hand a package over to them you are authorizing them to inspect it. If you want more privacy, use USPS Priority Mail or Express Mail. Unless the package is undeliverable or leaking or something like that, they need a search warrant based on probable cause to open a mailed package. If you go to FedEx in the Phillipines or Mexico to send off a package, they routinely open it up right at the counter to see what's inside before accepting it. Trampy |
