I would even think that you are more protected going the bank MO route than purchasing a pre paid credit card.

None of those pre-paid VISA/MC cards offer any protection for chargebacks or disputes because they're not an extension of credit.

You can stop payment on a cashier's check but it has to be done before the check is cashed. The bank will ask for a reason and it usually will cost you some money. Stopping payment on most types of money orders is impossible and your only recourse there, usually, is after it's cashed, and only if the endorsement is a forgery. Read the fine print on your money order's receipt. You usually have to wait 30 days to even find out if it's been cashed.

Money orders issued by your own bank will sometimes give you more rights and recourse options than the money orders you can buy at a convenience store or USPS. Read the fine print.

There can be criminal charges of check fraud if a stop payment on any kind of check is used to avoid paying what someone owes. It's the same as writing a bad check.

If you have a decent credit score, you can apply for and be approved for a credit card online in a few minutes and be able to use the number immediately for purchases. Don't ask me where. Do a Google search.
