Well, I have to take a stand here for full on legalization, based on a couple of things. I think drugs like heroin and methamphetamine are more dangerous in their uncontrolled, black market form, heavily cut and containing dangerous impurities like heavy metals because low-grade reagents were used in the synthesis, than in their pharmaceutical grade form. I think they are much, much more dangerous actually. And with dirty needles, people crushing up pills with insoluble components and dissolving them in tap water to inject, using pharmaceuticals are more dangerous than they have to be for the addict. I've known people who tried to shoot vicodin! They should make injectable solution OTC I say, the addicts I know would live a lot longer life. And the other huge problem with addiction, where people spend all of their money on their chosen substance, even sometimes rent or stolen money, would be avoided if the cost was cheap. A bottle of oxy 20s should be five bucks. They should spread truth, and incourage safe usage if there is going to be usage. A safe environment should be supplied if necessary. NO ONE has the right to tell me what I can and can't put in my body!!! I've had addict friends. I've watched a guy chew up six 80mg oxy's and down it with a large glass of wine and a marinol, while he was wearing two fentanyl patches. My other friend shoots up as much as 160 mg IV. Crazy people. They would have been addicts no matter what. But I've never fell into a serious habit like that. I've had plenty of chances. Many drugs are very available to me. Its a choice. (note, recently, I've been taking opioids orally for pain from some probs) Addiction will control itself. Not everyone is an alcoholic. The only problem I can see is how irresponsible most people are. But I can't stand seeing someone put black tar herion in their veins! Or tap water with no salt! Ewwww! And paying 20$ to do it too. Just crazy. |
