Gosh this is off-topic, but I'm still unclear: Couldn't there be a higher alkyl group (ethyl, propyl, etc.) attached to the alpha, N, or 3,4-dioxy positions? How does this system show that a methyl group, and only a methyl group, could be in those places? Anyway, I've often wondered why Shulgin was inconsistent with his stereochemistry in PiHKAL's diagrams, as you mention.
